Welcome to Year Two

Welcome to Year Two's class page, here you will find all the information you need for your child's learning. This year the children will be taught by Miss Mc Ardle. The children are also supported in their learning by Miss Randa. The children are all settling into Year Two well and working hard! You can also head over to our 'Curriculum' page to see more about what we are learning this year!

This half term, PE will be taught on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Please ensure your child comes in to school in their full PE kit. PE kits can be purchased from the office. It is vital for health and safety reasons that the children have the correct PE kit and pumps. 

Reading is a very important aspect of learning, so we actively encourage children to read every night. It is important that your child has their book bag every day so they are able to take home their reading record and reading book. We have purchased brand new book bag books to support your child's early reading. The children will be listened to several times a week by different members of staff and therefore need their book bags in every day. Book bags can be purchased at the main office. A positive work ethos makes all the difference to your child's learning, so your support from home is welcomed and encouraged.

PE

Every Friday, Year Two's PE sessions will focus on developing skills required for athletic activities such as running at different speeds, jumping and throwing. We have begun by developing our sprinting techniques. 

PSHE

We have begun to learn about the zones of regulation.  The zones help us to recognise our feeling and emotions. We have begun to look at ways in which we can help ourselves when we are in different zones. We used role play to show our different emotions. Can you guess which zone we are in? 

Red Zone 

 Elated or experiencing anger, rage, devastation, or terror when in the Red Zone. 

Yellow Zone

Stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, the wiggles, or nervousness when in the Yellow Zone.  

 Green Zone 

 Happy, focused, content, or ready to learn when in the Green Zone.  

Blue Zone

Sad, tired, sick, or bored

Science

This half term our Science topic is living things and their habitats. We have looked at the characteristics of living things of plans and animals. We went for a walk in our local environment and classified what is alive and what is not. 

Computing 

This half term, Year Two will develop the skill of effective searching. We have begun by beginning to understand the terminology associated with effective searching such as the world wide web, browser and search engine. We accessed purple mash through browsers and search engines. We then logged in and completed a quiz. Please ensure your child is logging into purple mash at home and completing any to do's. 

Place value

In year two, we have been developing our understanding of place value. We have been looking at 2 digit numbers up to 100. We have learnt how to flexibly partition our numbers using base 10 to help us.
