Stay and Play

“Play is the work of the child.” – Maria Montessori

Going to nursery for the first time is one of the most important experiences in a child’s life. Young children are at a tender age and we would like to make the experience as pleasurable as possible so that they feel happy and comfortable in their new environment and are eager to enjoy learning. It is an opportunity to explain the aims of our setting, our provision, and the importance and value we place on Early Years Education and Care and to find out about the particular needs of all children. It is also very important for us to learn about your child's likes and interests and to allow us to get to know
you. This is to ensure a smooth transition into our setting for your child and for you!

The nursery is a new environment with many different people to get to know and new friendships to develop with other children. This takes time and for some individual children it may take a little longer than others. Please be patient and keep communicating with your child’s keyperson in order to ensure the best possible start for your child.

We encourage parents to stay and play with their children in our setting. Our Stay and Play sessions can be messy, but they're always fun.

Play is vital for children; it's how young children learn, grow and have fun. It helps them to develop emotionally, socially, physically, intellectually, and understand the world around them. Through play children can experiment; learn about themselves; mix with others; and develop into healthy well balanced grown-ups.

“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.”

– O. Fred Donaldson
