It's a Bear!
We're Going on a Bear hunt
The children were acting out the story of 'We're Going on a Bear hunt'. They were using the pictures to retell the story using actions.
First the children shared their recommendations about the story by creating a book review. They were able to discuss if they liked ? disliked? favourite part? characters? improvements needed? and give reasons for their choice.
Our Book Reviews
Next we created a story map. The children were able to decide on the actions needed in order for them to learn the language pattern in the story and orally rehearse and learn the story. They used Michael Rosen's version as a stimulus to inspire them to improve upon their facial expressions, voice, gesture and actions, when retelling the story.

The children are growing in confidence and independence in creating their own story maps. They were able to work collaboratively with a partner, they were then able to read their story map and re tell the story.

After that the children were introduced to 'Boxing up'. This meant they were able to identify key events in the story, familiarise these events and use them to plan their own story with a clear structure.
