'Living, Loving, Learning Together'

Nursery

Welcome to Holy Cross Nursery!

The children in Nursery will be taught by Miss Brennan and supported by Mrs Massara. We would like you to visit our class page often to see the many learning experiences your child will be having while in Nursery. We are looking forward to working together with you for the rest of the year and getting to know your child, their interests and all of the things they can do.

We have an open-door policy, so if you have any problems or worries about your child, however small, please do not hesitate to speak to us.

Meet the Team

The Zones of Regulation

In Nursery the children have been reading the story 'How are You?' based on 'Winnie the Pooh' by A.Milne and E.H.Shepard.

We looked at the characters faces in the story and how it changes when they show their different emotions. The children are now able to talk about their feelings using words like 'happy', 'sad' and 'worried'.

The children in Nursery have enjoyed playing and exploring in our classroom environments.

Play is essential for children's development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, relate to others, set their own goals and solve problems.

‘My nose your nose.’

The children in Nursery have been reading the story 'My nose your nose' by Melanie Walsh. The moral of the story teaches children that although we have different, and alike qualities we are all equal.

Mis Brennan invited the children to look in the mirror and study their faces! We then had lots of fun creating our self portrait.

We would like to say a big thank you to all of you who baked for our cake sale and those who generously purchased the amazing treats. Nursery had lots of fun eating the yummy cakes together.

Vauxhall Children's Centre

Nursery have had the pleasure of Vauxhall Children’s Centre visiting our class and teaching us sign language through fun interactive games.

Please visit their website for useful information and workshops in your local community.

The story of Creation

The children in Nursery were told the story of Creation, engaging creatively through sound, movement and discussion.  We know that we were created by God out of love and for love.

One of the reasons we love celebrating our friends birthday is the sense of community and connection it brings. We had lots of fun dancing and eating yummy treats.

The children in Nursery enjoyed dressing up for the ‘Bug Ball.’ We had lots of fun dancing and playing party games with our friends.

Nursery have been learning all about the festival of Diwali, also known as the festival of light. It's one of the biggest festivals in Hindu culture and is celebrated by Jains, Sikhs and Newar Buddhists. One of the most exciting parts of Diwali is the fireworks displays. These not only light up the sky but also represent joy and new beginnings.

Bonfire Night

Nursery have been learning about Bonfire night on 5th November and talking about the sounds and colours of fireworks. We also talked about firework safety and keeping warm.

We had lot of fun creating our very own firework pictures.

The children in Nursery have been learning all about the poppy and why we wear poppies for remembrance. To support the children’s understanding we read a story about Remembrance Day and why we celebrate those that gave their all. We made yummy poppy biscuits and got to eat them for snack!

In the winter months the children will enjoy getting to experience snow and building snowmen. We had lots of fun with our friends outside.

We love Pen Disco in Nursery! This involves the children listening to music and creating patterns on a white board to help develop their fine motor skills.

Nursery have been reading the story 'Owl Babies' by Martin Waddell and Patrick Benson. The story invites the children to explore their feelings and emotions around separation anxiety.

We have had lots of fun learning about owls.
