'Living, Loving, Learning Together'
Welcome to Reception! Miss Mc Ardle is the class teacher and Miss Newcombe is our EYFS teaching assistant. We will work along with you to strive to fulfil each child's potential and get to know all about them. Our children are settling in well to their new classroom and making new friends, we are so proud of them! We have been learning and having lots of fun, we will share our Reception journey on this page as well as any useful information.
Please read with your child every night and make note of this in their reading record. Reading with your child and practising their phonics will help your child progress. Reading books will be changed on Fridays, please make sure your child brings their book bag to school on this day. Children will also be given QR codes to practise their sound knowledge and Fred Talk. This will be stuck into their reading record.
As parents or carers, if there is anything you are concerned about we are always willing to discuss these matters with you. Partnership and working together will be the best way for your child to progress and feel comfortable and happy within our class, so please feel free to talk to us if there are any issues.
Miss Mc Ardle and Miss Newcombe.
Our First Day in Reception
The children had a brilliant first day! We explored our classroom, our learning areas and began to learn where everything is. We are all a part of our classroom family. We learnt each other's names and talked about how we will be good friends in reception.
Our outdoor area
Building friendships in our outdoor area by learning how to work as a team and share.
Elmer
This half term, Reception will be reading the story "Elmer" by David McKee.
We will be exploring new vocabulary such as unique, different and patchwork.
The children are able to retell the story and are gaining deep familiarity.
EAD
Reception worked collaboratively to create patchwork elephants. We shared ideas, resources and skills. We later returned to our work to join different materials for Elmer’s ears, tail and eyes.
R.E
We heard the Creation story from the bible and retold this using the Golden Box.
Reception listened to the song “What a wonderful world” by Louis Armstrong.
We created artwork, thinking about the wonderful things that are in our world.
UW
In Reception, we have used our outdoor area to use our senses to describe what we can see, feel and hear. We could feel a gentle wind, see the clouds in the sky and feel the soil. We could also smell the lavender plants!
PD
Reception had lots of fun creating their own obstacle courses. In our obstacle courses we used fundamental movements such as running, hopping, rolling and jumping.
PSED
We have begun to learn about the Zones of Regulation. The Zones help us to identify our emotions. All emotions are ok! But we don’t want to be sad, wiggly or cross for too long. We have talked about ways to help us get back into the green zone so we are happy and ready to learn. This is called our toolbox!
Halloween Disco
Reception had lots of fun at the Halloween Disco! We enjoyed dancing and listening to the music.
UTW
In Reception we have been learning how people have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways. We have learnt all about Diwali which is also called the festival of light! We read non fiction books to learn more about this special time. We enjoyed creating our own Diva lamps.
Bonfire Night!
We have learnt all about Bonfire Night! We talked about the history of Bonfire Night and learnt about a man called Guy Fawkes. Reception enjoyed using chalk to make marks to represent fireworks. We talked about how to stay safe on Bonfire Night.
Remembrance Day
Reception learnt about Remembrance Day. We talked about how in the past there was a war. We talked about the soldiers, sailors and airmen. Remembrance Day reminds us of all the people who helped keep us safe.
Outdoor fun in the snow!
Reception enjoyed playing in the snow and developing their understanding of seasonal change. We talked about how the snow will melt and change into water.
Mathematics
Reception have been learning about the composition of 4 and 5. We used objects on our environment to show that numbers can be made in different ways. We have begun to understand how to write number sentences to show this.
