  • Letter from City Council

    Fri 16 Jul 2021

14th July 2021 Dear Parents and Carers, We want to thank you for all your support over the last year in helping in the fight against COVID-19. We are hugely proud of all of you for working with us through what has been a challenging time for everyone. We know it has been a particularly difficult time for those that have experienced personal losses. The Government have recently outlined their plan for the roadmap out of lockdown, with many control measures no longer being a legal requirement from 19 July. Locally, due to rapidly rising cases and hospital admissions from COVID-19 we are making strong recommendations to support national requirements. By working together we can keep everyone safe by reducing the virus spread. Everyone, of any age, who tests positive for COVID using a PCR test is still legally required to isolate for 10 days, along with their household contacts. Over the summer, NHS Track and Trace may identify others that need to isolate. To reduce your risk of becoming infected or needing to isolate because you’re identified as a close or direct contact we urge caution and strongly recommending the following: Face coverings and social distancing We strongly recommend that people continue to socially distance. Nationally, it is also expected that people continue wearing face coverings in crowded indoor areas where social distancing cannot be followed, such as supermarkets and on public transport, in health and social care settings, such as hospitals, care homes and GP surgeries, and where it would make others feel more comfortable. Testing Keep getting tested – We strongly recommend everyone should undertake twice weekly rapid symptom free testing using Lateral Flow Tests (LFT). If people experience general symptoms such as a headache, a stuffed or runny nose, tiredness or weakness, aches and pains, sore throat or diarrhoea, they should take an LFT and follow up with a PCR test if the LFT test is positive. If people have any of the main symptoms of COVID-19 such as a high temperature, a new continuous cough or loss or change to their sense of smell or taste they must stay at home Liverpool City Council I Cunard Building I Water Street I Liverpool I L3 1DS and book a PCR test. Around 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 don’t have symptoms but can still infect others - so getting tested regularly will help slow the spread. People with symptoms can get a test here or call 119: https://liverpool.gov.uk/communities-and-safety/emergency-planning/coronavirus/how-to-gettested/tests-for-people-with-symptoms/ People without symptoms can access our community testing sites here: https://liverpool.gov.uk/communities-and-safety/emergency-planning/coronavirus/how-to-gettested/symptom-free-testing/ or order test kits: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests Handwashing and hygiene It is essential that you maintain handwashing and hygiene to reduce your risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 and other illnesses. We strongly recommend you: • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available • wash your hands as soon as you get home • cover your mouth & nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze, and then, • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards Vaccinations Look after each other by making sure you and your loved ones have their COVID jabs! We strongly urging everybody eligible for the vaccine in Liverpool who has not had their vaccine yet to book ASAP at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirusvaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ or phone 119 free of charge. The evidence shows that being doubled jabbed will reduce the risk of becoming severely ill or dying from COVID but you can still become ill with the virus. Even if you are fully vaccinated you should still adhere to national and local guidance and recommendations. Now more than ever it is important we all look after our mental health. We have also included some links on the following page about parenting and wellbeing which you may find useful. Support is out there – please get help if you or someone you know needs support. Please stay safe and once again thank you for your continued support and enjoy your summer! Yours faithfully Steve Reddy Director of Children’s Services, Liverpool Matt Ashton Director of Public Health, Liverpool Liverpool City Council I Cunard Building I Water Street I Liverpool I L3 1DS

She was nominated for the award and became the winner. Well done Lila!

  • Grab a jab at Sefton Park

    Thu 08 Jul 2021

As part of the NHS ‘Grab-a-jab’ campaign, Sefton Park will be hosting Liverpool’s first mass vaccination event this weekend.

On Saturday 10th July (8am-8pm) & Sunday 11th July (8am-6pm), anyone aged 18+ can get their Covid-19 vaccine – and with thousands of vaccines available, no appointment is necessary.

Led by Central Liverpool Primary Care Network, and supported by Liverpool City Council and Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group, the pop-up centre will be located at Review Field, Sefton Park, next to Croxteth Gate and will offer both 1st and 2nd doses of AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines.

The weekend event is expected to be busy, so everyone attending is being asked to follow social distancing guidelines and wear face coverings, unless they are exempt – and not to attend – if they have any Covid-19 symptoms.

Anyone feeling unwell, is urged to book a PCR test and stay at home until the result is known.

Everyone can now access twice weekly symptom-free Covid-19 testing, so the park is also offering an opportunity to get tested at one of the mobile units, located at Oasis in the Park Café/Eros Fountain.

If you can’t make it to this event, you can find details or other drop-in sessions taking place around the city at: www.liverpoolccg.nhs.uk/dropinvaccination

You can also book an appointment slot at a local clinic by visiting: www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by calling 119.

    Reaction

Cllr Frazer Lake, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health said “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to get vaccinated, especially those younger residents who have only recently become eligible. I know it’s been a tough 18 months for us all, and that people are fatigued by talk of the virus, but infection rates amongst our 18-24s are now some of the highest in the city – so we need our young people to help with the fight against Covid-19. Remember the virus doesn’t discriminate by age – so even if you weren’t really unwell at the time, it doesn’t mean you won’t be affected by side effects of long Covid, such as exhaustion, loss of taste or smell and joint pain, weeks or months later. The vaccine offers us the best way to get back to doing the things we love- whether that’s having a night out in town, going to a music festival or attending a sporting event without the constant fear of spreading it to others.”

Matt Ashton, Director of Public Health Liverpool said “Capacity over the weekend means we will be able to vaccinate up to 8,000 people, which will make a real impact on our vaccination rates. We still have a significant number of people in the city who are overdue their second vaccine, and this pop-up event means accessing the vital second dose has been made a little easier. The wait between doses has now been reduced to 8 weeks for everyone and having both doses of the vaccine is the best way to stop yourself from getting seriously ill – as worryingly hospital admissions from Covid-19 are rising again, especially for those people who have been eligible, but haven’t yet had their vaccines.”

Dr Cait Taylor, a local GP and one of the Clinical Directors of Central Liverpool Primary Care Network said: “It’s great that nearly 70% of adults have had at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, however we want to reach those who haven’t yet come forward and also encourage people who have reached eight weeks since their first dose to have a second, for maximum protection. The easing of all Covid restrictions from 19th July means it’s even more important that people are protected by being fully vaccinated.”
