'Living, Loving, Learning Together'
Peacemakers: Learning for Peace
At Holy Cross, we are in the process of developing our Peacemakers: Learning for Peace programme, which helps pupils develop as caring, peaceful individuals grounded in faith.
Inspired by a holistic peace education resource, this programme fosters Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) growth across all year groups .
Key Features of the Programme:
Five Core Themes: Each age-appropriate unit focuses on Inner Peace, Peaceful Choices, Peaceful Actions & Behaviours, Peaceful Relationships, and Peaceful Communities
Circle Time & Cooperative Games: Pupils learn through fun, purposeful activities—like the ‘magic carpet’ affirmations or ‘pass the flowerpot’—that build confidence, empathy, active listening, and cooperation .
Toolkit of Interactive Activities: Over 70 structured approaches and games support SEL, dialogue, moral reasoning, and community building—with ‘Big Questions’ to spark reflective discussion
Year-6 Transition Support: Special sessions help older pupils develop emotional literacy, self-awareness and resilience as they prepare for secondary school
.
By embedding peace education into everyday learning, Peacemakers equips our children to become compassionate, thoughtful members of our school and wider community—just as Jesus taught in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”
