Common Good Schools Programme

The "Common Good Schools" programme is an initiative designed to integrate the principles of the Common Good into the lives of students, fostering community engagement and a sense of responsibility.

At Holy Cross, children in Year 4 and Year 6 are participating in the pilot programme which focuses on primary schools and aims to help students understand the concept of the Common Good and how to apply it in their communities.

Key aspects of the pilot program:

Curriculum:

The programme includes six lessons and six assemblies that introduce key principles of the Common Good, such as human dignity, solidarity and stewardship.

Community Engagement:

Students and teachers work collaboratively with local groups to engage in projects that benefit the community and promote the Common Good.

Goal:

The pilot aims to empower children to make a positive impact in their neighbourhoods, raising their aspirations and breaking down stereotypes about what jobs girls and boys believe they can do.

Partnerships:

The program encourages partnerships between schools, teachers, parents and local organisations to build the Common Good.

Positive Outcomes:

Early indications from the pilot program show positive outcomes for students, teachers, parents and local organisations, with the program boosting children's knowledge and confidence about their future.

Targeted Communities:

The pilot program specifically targets disadvantaged communities, with a focus on areas with higher levels of disadvantage.

Teacher Development:

The programme includes an online professional development (CPD) package for teachers to support their implementation of the Common Good principles.
