Supporting RE, Prayer and Catholic Life at Home

At Holy Cross, we value the vital role parents play in supporting their child’s faith journey. To help you engage with Religious Education, prayer, liturgy and Catholic life at home, we’ve gathered some useful links and resources below. These include weekly Gospel reflections, ideas for family prayer and ways to live out our Catholic values together. By sharing in prayer and learning as a family, you help your child grow in faith, love and understanding of God’s message—reflecting our school mission: “A family living, loving, learning together through the light of Christ.”

CAFOD

CAFOD (Catholic Agency For Overseas Development) is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales, and part of Caritas International. They work through the local Church to reach people and places that others can’t.

Across the world they bring hope and compassion to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice. They work on long-term development as well as responding to emergencies.

At Holy Cross, we support CAFOD through fundraising campaigns and by educating our children using the various resources that they have available to ensure our children learn about global justice and how they can live out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching in different ways.

Please see the CAFOD prayer links below where you will find various prayers suitable throughout the liturgical year and share in our school prayer life at home:

Catholic social teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.

Nugent Care and the Good Shepherd Appeal

At Holy Cross, we are proud to support Nugent Care—a longstanding Catholic charity in the Liverpool Archdiocese serving children, families, older people and those with additional needs. Guided by the love of Jesus, Nugent Care works to serve our most vulnerable neighbours through care, education, advocacy, and community support.

Each Lent, our school joins the Good Shepherd Appeal, raising much-needed funds through creative activities such as bake sales, sponsored walks and car boot sales. This year the theme is “Pilgrims of Hope”, in keeping with the Jubilee Year 2025, inviting our children to journey together in compassion and hope for those in need.

Why it matters:

  • Nugent Care has a 123‑year history of supporting thousands of individuals and families when public resources fall short

  • Funds raised by our school help Nugent provide vital services—such as family support, elderly care, disability services, and more—right here in our local community

How our school takes part:

  • Fundraising events such as cake sales, walkathons and sporting events

  • Creating banners to show our hopes and prayers during the Good Shepherd service

  • Joining fellow schools at the Good Shepherd service:

Through the Good Shepherd Appeal, our whole community—staff, pupils and families—lives out our mission of loving and serving others, becoming true pilgrims of hope.

Faith In Action

Each year, our Year 6 children participate in the Faith In Action Award. The award allows the Church to celebrate, recognize and reward all that active young people of faith already give to the Church; but it also challenges those young people to deepen their relationship with God and change the world in which they live.
