We are so excited to welcome you and your child to our Reception family. This is the beginning of a wonderful learning journey filled with curiosity, discovery and joy. Our classroom is a place where children feel safe, valued and ready to learn through play, exploration and shared experiences.
We use RWI to support children in their early reading and writing. Phonics helps children recognise letter sounds, blend them together to read words, and begin to build confidence as independent readers.
We encourage all families to support this learning at home through daily reading and accessing QR codes.
To strengthen children’s vocabulary and early communication skills, we use Concept Cat, a fun and engaging approach that helps children learn and understand key concepts such as big/small, in/on, fast/slow, and many more. Each week, children explore a new concept through stories, play, and hands-on activities. You may see Concept Cat words and ideas coming home—talking about these with your child helps embed their understanding and boosts language development. We encourage parents to complete the simple at-home Concept Cat activities we send home. These take only a few minutes but make a big difference to your child’s learning.
Developing strong gross motor skills is key in the early years, helping children build balance, coordination and strength. Our PE day is Monday, and each week we focus on activities that support physical development through fun, movement-based learning.
We place great importance on building positive relationships with our families and offer an open-door policy. Parents and carers are always encouraged to come and talk with us, share thoughts, or discuss their child’s progress. We believe that strong communication between home and school ensures every child feels confident, supported, and ready to learn.
