Welcome to our Year 6 class page. I am Mrs Griffiths, the Year 6 class teacher. Your child will also be supported in their learning by Ms. Hodges and Ms. Jody. This is an exciting year filled with new learning, growing independence, and plenty of preparation ready for the important transition to secondary school. In Year 6, we focus on building confidence, developing strong and positive attitudes towards learning, and encouraging each other to take pride in and celebrate our achievements.
Throughout the year, your child will explore a rich curriculum, take on greater responsibilities, and continue strengthening their skills in reading, writing, maths, and Religious Education. We also place a strong emphasis on kindness, teamwork, and being positive role models within our school community.
Your child has access to Mathletics, TTRockstars and Spelling Shed which they can access through their logins both in school and at home. In spring term, your child will have access to Read Theory and Maths.co.uk to further support them with the preparation for the end of KS2 assessments. Every child is given a reading book and a reading record that you and/or they can write in to record their reading journey. We strongly encourage reading at home every night to support fluency, develop a rich vocabulary and build upon their prosody and comprehension skills; book bags can be purchased from the school office if needed.
Homework is given out on Fridays and is due back by the following Friday. Homework will be reflective of the learning that has taken place in the classroom that week and/or linked to an individual target. Homework may be completed via worksheets provided and/or electronically through the various platforms your child has access to. PE takes place every Tuesday and during the autumn term, our class will attend swimming lessons. On PE days, children should come to school wearing their full PE kit so they are ready to take part comfortably and safely.
This page will keep you updated with any important information, class news, and snapshots of our learning. Myself and my year 6 colleagues look forward to working in partnership with you to support your child on their final Holy Cross journey. Please, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to get in touch.
Together, let’s make it a fantastic year of learning and growth!
