Welcome to Year Two's class page. Here you will find all the information you need for your child's learning. This year the children will be taught by Miss Dobson and are supported in their learning by Miss Randa. The children are all settling into Year Two well and working hard! You can also head over to our 'Curriculum' page to see more about what we are learning this year!
This half-term, PE will be taught on a Monday. Please ensure your child comes into school in their full PE kit.
Reading is a very important aspect of learning, so we actively encourage children to read every night. It is important that your child has their book bag every day so they are able to take home their reading record and reading book. The children will be listened to several times a week by different members of staff and therefore, need their book bags every day.
A positive work ethos makes all the difference to your child's learning, so your support from home is welcomed and encouraged.
In Year 2 English, children have been immersed in The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by learning how to write clear instructions. To bring this to life, the children had to tell Miss Dobson how to make a lighthouse sandwich — and she followed their instructions exactly! This led to some very funny moments, such as when “put the jam on the bread” resulted in the jam jar being placed on top of the loaf. Through this, children learnt why instructions must be clear and precise. They have been confidently using time conjunctions, adverbs and commas in a list, showing impressive progress in their SPaG skills. Children used the iPads to record their sentences and then listened back to them as they wrote, helping them check their ideas and improve their writing.

In Maths, children have started their money unit by using pretend coins to explore the value of each coin. They have been learning to recognise the difference between pence and pounds and understand how much each coin is worth. Through practical activities, the children have been building confidence in handling money and making simple amounts.
In Science, we have been learning about the properties of everyday materials. The children carried out an experiment to test different materials and explored whether they could be squashed, bent, stretched, or twisted. Through hands-on investigation, they made predictions, observed what happened and talked about why different materials behave in different ways.

In History this half-term, our topic is Three Queens. Children have explored what a monarch is and learnt that the UK has a hereditary monarchy. We are focusing on Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II, learning about their lives and why they are important in British history.
In RE this week, children are learning about the Baptism of Jesus and are exploring the idea of God as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Alongside this, the children are beginning a kindness project, encouraging them to show care and kindness to one another. As a key stage, we are also promoting kindness during break times through structured play, where children will take part in four different games: Animal Statues, Stuck in the Mud, Duck Duck Goose and Simon Says. These games help children build teamwork, inclusion and respect while having fun together.

In Computing, children are learning how to manage online information by exploring webpages and using keywords to find information. They are developing important skills to help them search safely and confidently online.
In Art this half-term, children are exploring painting, with a focus on the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. They are learning how he expressed emotions through abstract art, particularly by using colour to show feelings.
