Welcome to Year Two's class page. Here you will find all the information you need for your child's learning. This year the children will be taught by Miss Dobson and are supported in their learning by Miss Randa. The children are all settling into Year Two well and working hard! You can also head over to our 'Curriculum' page to see more about what we are learning this year!
This half-term, PE will be taught on a Monday. Please ensure your child comes into school in their full PE kit.
Reading is a very important aspect of learning, so we actively encourage children to read every night. It is important that your child has their book bag every day so they are able to take home their reading record and reading book. The children will be listened to several times a week by different members of staff and therefore, need their book bags every day.
A positive work ethos makes all the difference to your child's learning, so your support from home is welcomed and encouraged.
In English, the children have been developing their knowledge of different animals through our focus text, The Big Book of Beasts. They are currently working collaboratively to create their own presentations about an animal of their choice, building their research and speaking skills. The children were also lucky enough to watch Year 6 model a presentation and they confidently provided thoughtful feedback, offering ideas on how it could be improved.
In Maths, the children have recently completed their multiplication and division unit, and we encourage them to continue practising these skills at home to build confidence. We have now begun our measurement and length unit, where children are developing their understanding of measuring accurately. We are also continuing our problem-solving and reasoning focus on Fridays, where the children have particularly enjoyed working on the Chromebooks.
In RE, the children have been learning about the Easter story, focusing on the Last Supper and the crucifixion of Jesus. This learning has been further consolidated through the children practising for their Easter assembly, which they are very excited to perform for you all.

In Science, we have been exploring plants, looking at how they grow and what they need to thrive. The children were fully immersed in their learning through a science workshop where they planted bulbs. This hands-on experience has allowed them to observe the life cycle of a plant over time.
In Geography, the children are exploring the physical and human features of a small village in Zambia called Mugurameno. They have been learning about what life is like there and are beginning to compare it to life in the city of Liverpool, identifying similarities and differences between the two locations.
In DT, we have started our textiles unit, where the children have been learning about different types of puppets. Throughout the project, they will develop their skills in designing and sewing, and by the end, they will create their own hand puppet.
The children were lucky enough to visit Pizza Express, where they became young chefs and made their own pizzas. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were very excited to eat their delicious creations when they returned to school.
Alongside this, the children have been continuing with our kindness project, and we have already seen a positive difference in how they are showing care and kindness towards one another. As a key stage, we are also promoting kindness during break times through structured play, where children take part in four different games: Animal Statues, Stuck in the Mud, Duck Duck Goose and Simon Says. These games support children in developing teamwork, inclusion and respect, while also encouraging them to play kindly together.
