In Reception, our maths curriculum is designed to make learning numbers and patterns fun and engaging. Children explore counting, sorting, and simple addition and subtraction through hands-on activities, games, and everyday experiences. We focus on developing a strong understanding of shapes, measures, and spatial awareness, encouraging children to notice maths in the world around them. Our approach nurtures curiosity and confidence, helping each child build a solid foundation for future learning while enjoying the process of discovery.

Patterns

This week, the children have been exploring patterns! They used teddy bears to make colour patterns, looked for patterns in the outdoor environment, and explored patterns on different animals. They also used paint to create their own animal-inspired patterns, which helped develop their fine motor skills and creativity.

Shape

This week, the children have been learning about circles and triangles! They sorted triangles based on their properties, such as the number of sides, and used different shapes to make patterns and links. They also went on a hunt to find 2D shapes in the environment, which helped them connect their learning to the world around them.
